Belding Band Booster's Annual Fundraising Plan

Dear Belding Marching Redskin Parents:

WOW! This year we have the largest band ever in BHS history- 171 members! This is a direct result of the history of high quality instruction, time and the dedication of Mr. Stiles, Mr. Rousseau, Mary Sage and now Mr. Schnicke. With such large numbers also comes added expenses. This letter is to inform you of some of the exciting and hopefully profitable fund raisers that we are going to attempt this year. You nor your band student is obligated to participate, but it is strongly encouraged. Everyone working together will help raise the funds that we so desperately need.

At the last band booster meeting, a few parents expressed the concern that it is difficult to constantly sell items to the same people over and over. As a result, we have arranged some fund raisers that do no "cost" you or your relatives and friends anything but a little time. The following is an outline of the fundraisers that the band boosters have approved for this year:

Cow Pie Raffle: This is a little different, but has the potential to generate a lot of fun, publicity, and MONEY. This fund raiser consists of selling squares of the band practice field and letting a cow roam around the field until it ... well ... evacuates of the field! The ticket holder to that square will win 15% of the total amount of sales. A goat will "produce" the second prize results and will pay off 7.5%. Believe it or not this is becoming a popular fundraiser. The lottery commission has a complete set of rules governing this type of fundraiser. We are going to print 5,000 tickets. They will be sold for $2 each or 3/$5. If every band student sold only 30 tickets we would more than sell all 5,000 tickets. We are also requesting permission to sell these at the home football games. We could generate over $8,000. If all tickets were sold, 1st place could be between $1250 - $1500. Second place would then be half of that, or $626 - $750! Expenses include a surveyor's fee to mark off the squares, printing of tickets ($162), etc. It's feasible to clear $5,000 or more dollars. Hopefully, tickets will be available before the first home game. We will need volunteers to sell the tickets at the game and to man our booster booth. Tickets can only be sold at the booth and not in the crowd at the games.

Band Booster Booth: We are going to set up a table at home games to sell orange hand "clapper", small Belding banners, license frames, static clings, possibly t-shirts, and "cow pie" tickets. If you are interested in working at the games please call me: Judy B. 555-1212. If I'm not home, please leave a message and I will call you back ASAP. A possible BHS Marching Redskin's blanket is also a possibility for this booth, but I am still gathering information.

Submarine/Cookie dough Sale: This is always a profitable fund raiser. Max's have high quality subs and cookie dough. Sandy H. has agreed to head this fundraiser. We are aiming for a date that would allow delivery just prior to the deer hunting season. We need students/parents to sell the subs and dough and help for just a few hours to distribute them. More details soon ...

Hudson's/Kohl's: This has a potential to also raise a lot of money. This activity does not require selling. Kohl's will pay $5.75 a hour, for up to 20-60 workers each working a 4 hour shift. They do prefer that the people working wear t-shirts, etc. that display the organization (ie. Belding band t-shirts) that they are from. They will allow us to work 5-6 or more days! This is a great opportunity to raise money. As an added incentive, the person working is also given a generous discount for any personal shopping they do that day. This a great opportunity with the upcoming holidays just around the corner. PLEASE consider signing up for this! Kohl's do require that workers be at least 17 years old. We will present selected tentative dates at the next band booster meeting- Tuesday, September 22.

Van Andel/Delta Plex concession stands: This entails working at the concession stands and the boosters being paid a % of the earnings. This can produce modest to extremely profitable earnings, depending on the type of show that is scheduled. More information soon ...

McDonald's night: McDonald's has again offered to have a band night sometime in the spring. This was very profitable and a lot of fund when the did this for us when we were earning money for the Florida trip. In four hours we made almost $1,000!

Christmas Quilt Raffle: The talented Peggy G. and Mary B. have volunteered to make a quilt that will be raffled off the night of the Christmas Concert. More info soon ...

In addition to these fund raisers, the annual World's Finest Chocolate, Country Pride Cheese and Sausage sale and Band Calendars will also be held. These have been done for years and have a strong following of people in the community who like buying these items. A possible spring fundraiser form the company Kathy J. works for is also in the works.

WHEW! This sounds like a lot of fundraisers, but this list is for the entire year. There is so much variety that we hope everyone will find a few they will work hard at supporting. We had to order over $13,000 for uniforms for the band just this year. Next years band is expected to be over 190!! This huge increase requires and increase in uniforms, equipment, and MONEY. It is also time to start thinking about another trip. These trips provide memories that will last a lifetime for your child/children.

Please contact me if you can help with any (or even all) of the above fund raisers. If every parent will volunteer just 1-2 times this fall and spring, these fundraisers will be very profitable. No other organization woks harder to pay their own way! We urge you to attend the monthly band booster meeting held the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:30 P.M. in the BHS band room. With 170 members in the band, the band booster organization should be the largest and most active booster organization in Belding.

I hope to see all of you on Tuesday, September 22 in the BHS band room for the next important band booster meeting. Please try to attend. While you're there, check out the new carpeting. It really looks great!

Sincerely,

Judy B.
