Personal contact is the best way to approach perspective donors.
Most of us do not like to "cold call," and it would surprise your committee to discover how many contacts they have without knowing it. Remind yourself how many times you have been called to contribute, buy a raffle ticket or make a donation.
In order to tap these resources, we suggest that you have every member of your committee complete an acquisition contact sheet.
On a piece of paper ask the committee to write down the names of five:
- Family members and their occupations
- Colleagues at work and their hobbies or associations
- Businesses you regularly frequent
Each member of the committee will instantly have 15 possible sources to contact and seek a donation without a single "cold call."
The committee will quickly realize a multitude of possible donors.
