Wine Tasting & Auction Event
Washington, District of Columbia
-
On May 9, 2008, from 6:30-9:30PM, several Rotaract Clubs throughout Rotary International District 7620 will be hosting a Wine Tasting & Auction Event for Cambodian Demining Efforts at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Washington, D.C. His Excellency Sereywath Ek, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the United States, has graciously offered the venue for the event. Please visit the following link for directions to the Embassy: www.embassyofcambodia.org/contact.htm.
The Royal Embassy of Cambodia is headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, His Excellency Sereywath Ek, along with the Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Meng Eang Nay. The Embassy is committed to providing assistance to Cambodian nationals, Non-Cambodians seeking entry to Cambodia, and presenting the latest and most important news concerning Cambodia.
Event Details
The Wine Tasting & Auction Event will include Cambodian delicacies, ample hors d'oeuvres, and will feature Classical Cambodian Dancers. The funds donated through the cost of admission, wine tasting and auction will go towards The Halo Trust's Foundation Coalition Project 3 to raise much needed funds to remove landmines from 3 villages in the Northwest Region of Cambodia along the K-5 Mine Belt. It is critical to remove these landmines, as they cause death and injury, limit safe access to food and water, and endanger the agriculturally productive land.
Wines will be supplied from a number of vineyard and wine distributors including Wines of Moldova, whose wine is supplied by Milestii Mici, the largest winery in the world – the Golden Collection – which contains over 1.5 million bottles of wine. Rare and collection wines from Milestii Mici will be presented by Mr. Eugene McCord, President of Moldova Georgia USA Business Center dba Wines of Moldova, company based in Georgia, USA that imports Moldovan Wine to the United States market.
Universal Wines & Spirits of the greater Washington, D.C. area is pleased to supply fine wines from the Brassfield Estate and Winery located in Clearlake Oaks, California. Just north of Napa Valley, the unique combination of minerals in the soil coupled with volcanic terrain are ideal for producing premium grapes, rich with flavor. Over the course of three decades, Jerry Brassfield's estate has cultivated a wide array of multi-award winning wines of all varieties. True to their word, the name Brassfield represents state-of-the-art winemaking at its finest.

Background & History
Rotary International Mine Action in Cambodia was initially started by the Seattle 4 Rotary Club in 2003 and currently has 18 Rotary Clubs around the world involved. Rotary International has partnered with The HALO Trust, a non-profit de-mining organization based in Great Britain and the United States. The HALO Trust's de-mining efforts were previously supported by the late Princess Diana and more recently American Actress & Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations, Angelina Jolie. The U.S. State Department has granted The HALO Trust a $50,000 matching grant for mine action in Cambodia - $25,000 to be allotted to Rotary-led projects including the District 7620 event.
Walk Like MADD
Tamap, Florida

Walk Like MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driver's signature walk, is a fun, community-driven walk that raises funds and saves lives. Every step taken and pledge made will help raise funds and awareness for MADD's programs and services that will serve to make our communities safer. The funds we raise will help people in our community by providing free victim survivor support, by teaching kids to be smart and safe passengers by reminding people to designate a sober driver.
Join us Saturday -- June 28, 2008
at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo.
7:00 am: Ceremonies begin
7:30 am: Walk begins
11:00 am: Entertainment Festivities
Step by Step Empowering Change
Since 1980 MADD has made great strides to stop drunk driving and we are inviting companies, businesses, and other groups to walk a few miles in our shoes – literally!
300,000 people are alive today and an untold number have received comfort, thanks to the help of caring people like you.
Celebrating 25 years, MADD is a grassroots organization that has grown to become the largest crime victims' assistance organization in the world with more than 3 million members and supporters, likely represented by your company's employees.
Through its programs, services and advocacy efforts, MADD is the driving force behind positive changes that make the roads safer for everyone.
How the Walk Helps
MADD supports your community with monies raised through Walk Like MADD.
They offer support programs to help victims cope with their tragedy and loss of a loved one at no charge.
MADD provides legal support to victims as they go through the judicial process.
MADD provides equipment to local police to better detect and arrest drunk drivers (e.g. preliminary breath testers, passive alcohol sensors, in-vehicle video cameras, signs, lights and cones for setting up sobriety checkpoints).
MADD is actively working with state and local legislators to adopt tougher laws against drunk driving and closing the loopholes in many existing laws (e.g. .08 BAC limits, administrative license revocation, vehicle immobilization for repeat offenders, graduated driver licensing for youth).
MADD implements educational programs to limit youth alcohol use among elementary, middle school, high school, and college students.
