Dem Dats Doin

We take a look at fundraising event announcements from across North America.

  • A Taste of Festival! Fundraiser

    San Francisco, California -

With a unique location for a benefit (a furniture store), come experience and get a sneak-peak of what is the prelude to our annual Festival, August 3, 2007, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

There’ll be yummy food (cold cuts, cheese ‘n crackers, pastries) and drinks (expensive wine, coffee) courtesy of our sponsors: Sorrentos Italian Deli and Martha & Bros. Coffee.

Get down for a good cause to the live sounds of Latin Overdrive.

Donations will be accepted at the door and ALL proceeds will go towards the Festival.

Event hosted by Furniture 4 Less (4550 Mission Street) so there’ll be plenty of seats for all!

This event and the Excelsior Festival is put on by the Excelsior Action Group. We are a non-profit community-driven organization working to revitalize the Excelsior neighborhood into a vibrant urban village that supports a diverse range of small, independent businesses, accessible and efficient transit systems and arts and cultural institutions that will offer entertainment in a safe, friendly environment. We hope residents and visitors to the Excelsior will appreciate our sense of community, spirit and unique character.

  • Christmas in July

    Birmingham, Alabama -

Put on your flip flops and break out the eggnog!

On Saturday, July 28th, WorkPlay will transform into an exciting Holiday Oasis complete with gingerbread men and palm trees.

Christmas in July will feature great holiday drink specials, craft stations to decorate your own ornament or gingerbread man, heavy hors d’oeuvres and great music from 4 On the Floor.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Salvation Army.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of the show. WorkPlay is also offering a special group rate of $20 tickets for those in groups of 20 or more.

The show begins at 8 p.m.

  • 2nd Annual Swamp Swim

    Midland, Ontario, Canada -

The staff at Wye Marsh once again take to the water to raise funds for research and survey for turtles including Species at Risk such as the Blanding's Turtle. This year the swim will be in July as vegetation growth in the channels will not be as thick (we hope).

Staff obtain sponsors for the approximate 1 km swim. Swimmers will launch off the dock at the Observation Tower at 1 pm on Saturday, July 21st, 2007 . The course runs parallel to the main walking berm, past the swan feeding dock, around Swan Island and back to the tower.

This swim is not a competition – it takes a lot of nerve to swim in a wetland as it is and to have a race through Lilly pads, cattails and aquatic plants is challenge enough!

Spectators are welcome as are pledges for each swimmer. Free admission for supporters contributing a pledge.

The Treinen Farm Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch is a third generation family farm in beautiful southern Wisconsin. We welcome you to bring your family or group out to see a real working farm, and enjoy the beautiful countryside. Show the kids how corn grows, what real farm animals look like, and have a picnic in the quiet Wisconsin countryside. Take the corn maze challenge, or look for the perfect pumpkin after your horse drawn wagon ride. Come visit us on weekends August through October, or call anytime for a private group outing.

  • Toast for a Cause

    Chicago, Illinois -

The Big Shoulders Fund Auxiliary Board will be hosting its inaugural fundraiser, Toast for a Cause! The event will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the Chicago Cultural Center’s G.A.R. Rotunda and Memorial Hall. Tickets: $55.00 per person.

We are planning to make this event an annual fundraiser to support Big Shoulders Fund scholarships! It will feature a dynamic jazz band to set the celebratory mood and provide entertainment.. The Auxiliary Board’s Toast for a Cause benefits thousands of inner-city youth, regardless of religious or ethnic background, with all the funds raised by the event going toward the Auxiliary Board Scholarship.
