by Deane Brengle

This month (January 1997) we are going to take a look at two newsletters from Stevenson Consultants, The Volunteer Management Report and Successful Fund Raising. Contact and subscription information is found at the end of each review.

The Volunteer Management Report

A monthly publication that targets volunteer leaders and volounteer-driven programs. It is designed to help leaders recruit more volunteers and keep them motivated. The newsletter provides practical strategies for volunteer managers. It teaches how to enlist a results-oriented chairperson. It gives examples of how other organizations are effectively managing large numbers of volunteers.

In addition, each month the report contains a supplement called the Volunteer Leader. This special monthly insert is designed to assist in training and motivating volunteers who show the greatest potential for leadership. Each issue contains 3 copies of the Volunteer Leader for you to hand out to top volunteers or board members.

Some of the topics covered in the six page sample issue we received were:

  • Keeping in Step With the Outspoken Volunteer
  • Strategies to Diminish Volunteer Burnout
  • Tips for Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers
  • Dealing With Volunteers Who Promise But Don't Deliver
  • Profiles In Leadership - Seeking Out an Effective Chairperson

The issue included the Volunteer Leader, two pages covering:

  • Overcoming "Telephobia"
  • Tips for Planning Special Events
  • Are You Living Up to Your Ambassador Potential?
