  • St. Valentine's Day Hair Massacre

    London, Ontario -

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario invites you to be part of our 1st Annual St. Valentine's Day Hair Massacre! Raise pledges, shave your head, and help make wishes come true!

The St. Valentine’s Day Hair Massacre is a fun and heart warming event that began in 2002 in Edmonton, Alberta when a little girl named Kali suffered her third hair loss due to aggressive rounds of chemotherapy. Her father, Gordon decided to shave his own head in support and encouraged 48 co-workers at Canada Post to do the same. In 2006, 840 heads were shaved and a world record set for the most heads shaved in a 24 hour period under one roof.

In 2007, the St. Valentine’s Day Hair Massacre will become a National event this Valentine's Day with various Make-A-Wish® chapters across Canada joining forces to host a fun, 24 hour head shave. Participants willing to go bald for the Make-A-Wish Foundation® can dye their hair blue in the weeks leading up to the event, to show to the community that they are part of the St. Valentine’s Day Hair Massacre. Participants are asked to raise funds through pledges to help support the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario. We wish to thank our media sponsors A Channel and BOB FM.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. In Southwestern Ontario the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has granted more than 500 wishes since its inception in 1986.

Editor's Note: If you or your group knows of an event that would be appropriate for listing here we invite you to submit it to: brengled@fundsraiser.com
