Fundraising secrets, tips & hints

We take a look at fundraising event announcements from across North America.

  • The No Tie Dinner & Dessert Party

    Dallas, Texas -

The No Tie Dinner & Dessert Party, benefitting AIDS Services of Dallas, will take place on the evening of March 14, 2009 at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. A fun-filled night of individuals hosting dinner house parties across the city is followed by a dessert social and silent auction at the Frontiers of Flight Museum.

Over 800 participants from around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex are expected to attend, providing funding for the many activities of AIDS Services of Dallas.(ASD) which allow the organization to help those living with AIDS to live independently. Sponsorships are available at several levels, and individual participation at private homes and venues throughout the DFW area is encouraged to make the evening a success. Last year, in ony its third year, the party raised over $100,000 for ASD.

On Saturday, March 14, 2009, generous, fun people will host social gatherings - from backyard barbecues for 10 to formal dinners for 30+. The dinners will be casual or formal, large or small, gourmet to potluck. In return for their host's hospitality, guests are asked to make a minimum donation of $40 to ASD. All dinner proceeds will go toward housing and supportive services for ASD clients.

After dinner, all dinner hosts and guests are invited to Frontiers of Flight Museum for a dessert celebration with entertainment, dancing, coffee and delightful desserts donated by some of Dallas's finest caterers and restaurants. We also plan an auction with wonderful items.

All hosts will be treated to a special Host Appreciation Party, where hosts will receive a Party Kit with final instructions, dessert party tickets and name tags for guests.

    When: Saturday, March 14, 2009
Time: Dessert Party begins at 8 p.m.
Venue Sponsor: The Frontiers of Flight Museum
    6911 Lemmon Ave., Dallas
    Donation: $40.00 at the door

AIDS Services of Dallas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that aims to create and strengthen healthy communities through the delivery of quality, affordable, service-enriched housing for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. The No Tie Dinner & Dessert Partycommittee today announced that Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk and Anthony Chisom have agreed to be the Honorary Co-Chairs of the 2009 No Tie Dinner & Dessert Party. Known for her inspirational speeches, Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk is expected to tie together the AID's challenge with the larger gay human rights issues and will seek to encourage the community to cross generational lines in an effort to empower themselves by uniting.

  • It's a Wonderful Life Film Fundraiser

    Tacoma, Washington -

Join us on Thursday, December 11, 2008 for a screening of Frank Capra's It’s a Wonderful Life and help us raise money for Associated Ministries Family Emergency Fund.

The Family Emergency Fund helps at-risk families meet needs when no one else can. To help families keep their homes and jobs, this fund enables Associated Ministries to respond to emergency needs such as offering safety from family violence, costs surrounding death and dying, transportation to job locations, temporary child care for the working parent, medical expenses, and other real and urgent needs faced by families struggling to make ends meet.

To many of us, these expenditures are small or at least not substantial enough to put us in debt. Yet to individuals and families living in poverty, these expenses are impossible to meet without assistance and can put families at risk of becoming homeless or unemployed.

    Date, Time & Location

    Thursday, December 11, 2008 2:00 p.m. - Film Screening
    - Tickets $10 individuals; $15 couple

    6:00 p.m. - Reception and Screening
    - Suggested Donation of $50

Location - Blue Mouse Theatre, 2611 North Proctor St., Tacoma, Washington

    Information and Registration:

Call Sandra Sanderson, 253-383-3056, ext. 115 or email her at sandras@associatedministries.org

    History

In 2003, Associated Ministries inaugurated a new holiday tradition. The agency began presenting benefit showings of the holiday film classic, It's a Wonderful Life, to support the Family Emergency Fund. The black and white 1946 movie, directed by Frank Capra, is shown at the Blue Mouse Theatre in Tacoma's Proctor District.

Starring Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed, and Lionel Barrymore, It's a Wonderful Life is a wonderful tribute both to the power individuals have to change communities for the better and to the power of community to help individuals in need.

Proceeds from the film screening benefit Associated Ministries' Family Emergency Fund, which helps meet the urgent needs of at-risk families. This fund enables Associated Ministries to help families keep their homes and jobs by responding to emergency needs such as safety from family violence, costs surrounding death and dying, transportation to job locations, temporary child care for the working parent, medical expenses, and other real and urgent needs faced by families struggling to make ends meet. To many of us, these expenditures are small or at least not substantial enough to put us in debt. Yet to individuals and families living in poverty, these expenses are impossible to meet without assistance and can put families at risk of becoming homeless or unemployed.

As the film critic Roger Ebert said, It's a Wonderful Life is “a celebration of the lives and dreams of America's ordinary citizens, who tried the best they could to do the right thing by themselves and their neighbors.”
